BOTOX®
What is Botox®
It is purified protein, administered in a simple, nonsurgical procedure,
that temporarily smoothes the moderate to severe frown lines between your
brows, crow's feet or forehead lines.
BOTOX® Cosmetic
is indicated for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate
to severe frown lines between the brows in adults from 18 to 65 years
of age.
BOTOX® Cosmetic
is contraindicated in the presence of infection at the proposed injection
site(s). Patients with neurological disorders such as ALS, Myasthenia
Gravis, or LambertEaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side
effects.
What is the
Botox® Cosmetic Procedure Like?
It's a simple, ten-minute treatment that consists of a few tiny injections.
The doctor decides exactly where to administer BOTOX for best results.
Is the Procedure
Painful ?
Most patients compare the sensation to a bug bite. Overall, the discomfort
is minimal and temporary. Less frequently occuring (>3%) adverse reactions
include pain in the face, erythema at the injection site, and muscle weakness.
Will I Need
Anesthesia ?
No. But your doctor may choose to numb the injected area with a cold pack
or anesthetic cream before the actual treatment.
Do I Need
to Take Time off from Work to Recuperate?
Most patients go right back to work or continue their activities immediately
after the procedure.
When Will
I Start to See Results?
You should start to see a visible improvement in the area between your
brows within a few days. The area may continue to improve for up to a
week.
How Long Will
the Results Last?
With the recommended 20 unit dosing, the effects of BOTOX can last up
to four months.
Will I Experience
Side Effects?
The most common side effects are headache, respiratory infection, flu
syndrome, temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Less frequent occuring (>3%)
adverse reactions include pain in the face, erythema at the injection
site and muscle weakness.
How will BOTOX
Affect my Facial Expressions?
BOTOX is injected in small doses directly into the muscles that cause
those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows to form, allowing
that area to smooth out. It won't affect your ability to laugh, smile,
or otherwise express yourself.
Is BOTOX Expensive?
Actually, it's quite affordable. In fact according to the American Society
for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, BOTOX is one of the least costly facial
aesthetic procedures performed in the United States.
